Who is supporting this idea?
Who is behind all this? There's a few people interested in the idea of a hackerspace in the Region of Waterloo. Here's who we know about so far:
- Michael Hiemstra is sounding the rallying call. He's willing to help setup the legal structure and generally organize.
- William Spaetzel is interested... it was his idea to setup this wiki.
- Bill Traynor (nick: wmat) is excited and hoping hackw.net can go to good use.
- Simon Clark, likes to break stuff
- Kyle Spaans (pic) is a student at UW who is used to this kind of thing on campus, but wants to see it off campus.
- Nick Guenther is also a UW student. He just learned how to solder and is now mad with power.
- Kirk Zurell is working on fundraising.
- Jeff Schmidt is a MAKER. He's got plenty of experience with electronics hardware and general fabrication, but will need some help with programming.
- Ken Roland has a multi-meter he can donate ... and maybe an arcade machine ;)
- Jack van Ham can donate a rotary tool (and some spare PC parts) ... and hopes to see a location nominated soon! :)
- Daniel Allen is enthusiastic and hopeful.
- Darcy Casselman thinks this is a good idea, and is willing to help.
- Cedric Puddy (cedric at thinkers.org) is enthusiastic, has resources to share, and helpful (a network core, various lab gear, like a fancy signal generator, soldier fume sucker/airfilter, network core (router, switching, wireless, maybe even internet), computers, etc.
- Mitch Rybczynski (mitchrybczynski on gmail) will be kicked out by the wife if he does any more soldering or woodworking at home, so is looking for a place. Has tools, speakers to donate/loan. Likes audio speakers, amplifiers, and automotive mechanics as a break from software work.
- Mark(John) Smith needs more room. Has great plans involving Repraps, aluminum casting and Blender.
- Punkin3.14 works with computers all day, and recreates on the crafty side of the fence (textiles, growy things, fūd). She's recently discovered lights that blink, and now must conquer them all.
- Ben Brown (Doc) is a self-employed onsite network geek & web developer eager to help out with computing equipment, furniture, tools and experience (technical, business or otherwise).
- Bevan Lantz is ready to help where he can
- Karl Williams is into robotics, electronics and microcontrollers and has written books on the subjects. He is very interested in helping out with the hackerspace and has lots of spare equipment and boxes of junk to help out.
- Darin White reverse engineers circuits, codes on PIC and AVR, fabs from scrap and scratch, and regularly kills FETs in the pursuit of the perfect, low-cost, easy-to-build h-bridge. He is interested in teaching intro electronics to support this hackerspace and the local Maker scene.
- Bert Wikkerink is building a tesla coil. 140 .047 uF caps are too expensive, so he's gonna build the caps himself, out of 6 mil poly and aluminum foil.
- katchan works for an evil corporation by day, and by night does crafty things (textiles, yarn/thread, scale model kits, jewelry-making), as well as much less productive stuff--and is very much looking forward to contributing and learning.
- Robert "Gus" Gissing is always building and fixing...he thinks that wood is good for making handles on metal things and that the secret to movng forward is to bang the rocks together.
- Andrew Mackie has a basement full of half-finished projects, and is probably about to start another one right now.
What about you? Sign up for the mailing list and send us a note showing your interest. Watch for details on a meetup and come and meet everybody. While you're at it, you can add yourself to the list here!
