Building a Hackerspace in the Region of Waterloo
The hackerspace is a reality. Check out http://kwartzlab.ca/. W00t!
What is a Hackerspace?
A hackerspace has been described as "a YMCA for geeks and artists". In short, it's a shared workshop with tools and equipment necessary to make stuff. There's a recent Wired article that explains a bit more... "DIY Freaks Flock to 'Hacker Spaces' Worldwide. You can also watch this RocketBoom video of Bre Pettis at the hackerspace NYC Resistor. Bre rules!

maybe for the next meeting we can all bring a thing we are working on or have finished and want to talk about. it could be a nice icebreaker. --gus

Maybe for the next meeting we can have a bit more notice... Because I work in the afternoons some times and can't always change my plans at the last moment...

I don't like the bit about "We're an intelligent community. We're entrepreneurial.". Isn't the most important reason for a hackerspace to have a place for *fun*?
In my (perhaps untenable) idealism I want to stay welllll lclear of this: "IgniteNYC was pathetic. [...] It was an event where the business idiots could find a new “techie” to exploit." (http://www.zedshaw.com/essays/the_freehackers_union.html)
(also hi!)
